David Accurso was commissioned by Madden-McFarland, a furniture and design boutique, to create custom artwork for the Raphael Hotel. David created stippling art that depicts both the Kansas City and Country Club Plaza skylines. David’s Kansas City skyline drawing was created several years ago. To customize this project for The Raphael Hotel, he made a special recreation that features an iconic view of the Country Club Plaza.
Reproductions of David’s original work were created to be displayed in every room (126 total) at The Raphael Hotel. One print is framed and displayed in each room as seen below.
The Process
To create his custom piece for The Raphael, David began by sketching each building that makes up the Country Club Plaza and Kansas City skylines. Next, using a fine point pen, he started the time-consuming stippling process by placing individual dots by hand. After many hours of work, he completed his piece that depicts the Kansas City skyline in black and white, overlayed by the Country Club Plaza skyline in gold.
