David Accurso has made a variety of stippling art including buildings, skylines, houses, portraits, flowers, still lifes, animals, geometrics, and more. Although each piece is unique, David’s process remains the same for every project. He starts with a pencil sketch and mainly focuses on outlining the subject’s shadows and highlights. He then uses a fine-point pen (there are many sizes) and draws with small dots to create the image he has in mind. David determines the size of pen to use based on the overall size of the drawing and the value range needed for the piece. David controls value changes in his drawings in two ways. First, he manipulates the spacing between each dot he places. He may then use several layers of dots to darken an area or to obtain a certain texture.

Stippling art is both intensive and time-consuming. A typical piece for David will require a minimum of ten hours, while some have taken him up to one hundred hours. The average size of his drawings are 11” x 14,” and they range from 5” x 7” to 18” x 24.”
